Physical reality
Environment, access, power, timing and the consequences of failure shape the architecture.
02 / SECTORS & APPLICATIONS
The operating context changes the problem. We connect our technical capabilities to the practical demands of industry, infrastructure and intelligent physical systems.
These application areas are examples, not a fixed sector list. We also welcome enquiries involving communications, instrumentation, energy systems, aerospace and space-enabling technology, and emerging engineering problems. We assess feasibility and specialist requirements for each project; sector qualification and certification must be established for the particular work.
01 / APPLICATION AREA
Connected production equipment must exchange useful information without obscuring how the underlying machine or process behaves. New sensing, analytics and network interfaces can introduce dependencies into systems designed for a different operating model.
Potential work includes instrument integration, equipment monitoring, intelligent inspection and the security of industrial networks. We consider timing, data integrity, control interfaces and maintainability alongside the value of the new function.
02 / APPLICATION AREA
Water, distance and difficult access place practical limits on power, communications, observation and maintenance. Integration decisions have to account for the physical environment as well as the computing task.
Our engineering and research experience informs potential work in instrumentation, electrical systems, remote monitoring and intelligent platforms in marine and offshore settings. Potential applications connect sensing and control with energy management, communication resilience and dependable system interfaces.
03 / APPLICATION AREA
Distributed assets are costly to inspect, and measurements collected over long periods must remain interpretable. An apparently healthy communication link does not establish that the underlying sensor, model or process can be trusted.
Relevant applications include low-power monitoring, visual asset inspection, environmental sensing and process-aware security. Research in connected sensing, infrastructure imagery and industrial-control systems informs the questions we ask about data quality and physical consequences.
04 / APPLICATION AREA
Robots must interpret uncertain observations while working within the limits of their sensors, actuators and onboard computing. Teams of machines add network dependencies and questions about identity and shared information.
Potential applications include intelligent inspection, perception systems, remote operations and collaborative sensing. We connect embedded integration and machine learning with research on robotic workflows, privacy and the security of distributed intelligence.
05 / APPLICATION AREA
Interconnected devices can make local decisions using information that crosses several trust boundaries. A weakness in device identity, a sensor input or an update mechanism can influence behaviour elsewhere in the system.
Our capabilities are relevant to distributed sensing, edge intelligence, connected equipment and human-supervised autonomy. Architecture and evaluation should account for the whole path from physical observation to model output and action.
06 / APPLICATION AREA
Demanding operating environments require a clear understanding of threats, dependencies and the consequences of failure. Performance and security need to be evaluated under representative constraints rather than assumed from a component specification.
Relevant technical work includes secure embedded architectures, resilient communications, sensing, robotic-system security and adversarial evaluation of intelligent systems. Each prospective engagement requires a defined scope, authorised access and an agreed handling approach appropriate to the work.
ACROSS EVERY ENVIRONMENT
Environment, access, power, timing and the consequences of failure shape the architecture.
Sensing, communications and models need an evidence-based account of where uncertainty enters.
Evaluation needs representative conditions, meaningful baselines and clearly stated limitations.
